Daystar GCI Scholarship

Introduction

The Daystar GCI Scholarship is a partnership with the Global Citizens Initiative (GCI), a nonprofit that designs and implements programs to foster caring and creative leaders. The Daystar GCI Scholarship is awarded to one Grade 9/10/11 student to attend the renowned GCI Fellowship Program with 30 other selected high school students from around the world. It begins with a 9-day summit which has been held at prestigious universities such as Harvard University and St. Andrews University in Scotland. After attending the summit, students have 9 months to complete their glocal (global yet local) social innovation project with the support of a mentor. The scholarship will cover the full cost of the GCI Fellowship Program ($5900US), excluding travel to the location.

This Daystar GCI Scholarship is in loving honor of Haydn Robarts, who graduated from Daystar’s Elementary school in 2011 (before Daystar had a middle and high school). He attended the GCI Fellowship program in 2017 when it was held at Harvard University. Sadly, Haydn was diagnosed with a brain tumor and passed away in May 2020 at 19 years of age. He was dedicated to doing what he could to better the world around him and exemplified the core values of Daystar Academy and all the attributes GCI seek to nurture in its Fellows.
